Project Green Gold

By Keshav Srushti

Keshav Srusti’s Gram Vikas Yojana is actively involved in making villages “Self-Sustainable” through its broad Initiatives under verticals like Education, Health, Agriculture and Industry. In year 2017, once Indian Forest Act was amended to remove “Bamboo” from Tree category and was brought under Grass category, it opened a huge potential for Tribal communities for sustainable living through Bamboo cultivation and Harvesting.  Keshav Srusti in its pursuit to develop sustainable living for Tribal communities in Vikramgad Taluka (District:Palghar) , found an innovative idea to build a business model around Bamboo crop which would be Environment Friendly, Self Sustaining and Empowering the village communities especially the Tribal Women. This initiative was named “Project Green Gold”.  Under this initiative, Keshav Srusti started training of 25 Women in Tetawali Village in Jan 2019 to make Handicraft related products from Bamboo. In view of the encouraging response and the hardwork of Keshav Srusti’s Team, a company was registered by name “Vikramgad Bamboo Udyog Producer Company Ltd” which is 100% owned and managed by Tribal Artisans. As of March 2024, the company has 253 shareholders (mainly Tribal Women)and giving employment to  more than 800+ Tribal Women.
